Service Dogs

Canix can train a dog to assist persons with a handicap, e.g. wheelchair users.

The dogs are custom-trained to match the needs of the future owner. The dogs are are usually transferred to the final owner when they are about one year old.

Does Canix train Service dogs?

Canix trains service dogs only on very few and special occasions.

Canix has developed a completely new set of training methods for the training of service dogs. This approach to training does have several advantages. The dogs are very eager to work, and they work with great enthusiasm and an enormous stability for their entire life or to the age of retirement. They can learn extremely complicated tasks. They are educated and ready to go to work approximately one year earlier than a standard service dog. Each puppy is selected individually for the specific future owner and the whole education is performed keeping the needs and personality of this person in mind. Therefore, Canix can educate dogs for disabled people who can not make use of a standard service dog.

However, the training of service dogs is not any longer the main objective of Canix, and we only accept assignments on very special occasions. The puppy lives with Canix as a family member for ten months during which period it is socialized and trained at the same time. We must therefore thoroughly know the future owner and this person must have special needs that cannot be fulfilled by a standard service dog. Also, we need to know the future conditions of the dog.
